LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF
My name is Toon and I am manager of the paint shop at Koninklijke Gazelle in Dieren. I am in charge of the management of 44 employees who take care of the paint and stickering of the bike parts. I spend the remaining time on long term goals and the necessary developments to realize them.
5S COMPANY AT GAZELLE
5S Company was the first within Gazelle to start at the paint shop with a 5S Implementation, where everything was given a permanent place and work was done on standardization. Before the start there were many skeptical voices, but after the roll-out the entire factory also wanted what the paint shop had: a tight working environment and 'flow'. 5S has now been rolled out throughout the factory and this provides basic stability. In addition, there are day starts in all departments, so that information flows from the workplace to management and vice versa. Because of this basic stability, there has been room for optimization and innovation for a long time.
EXPERIENCE WITH 5S COMPANY
The people of 5S Company practice what they preach. No thick analysis reports, but a pragmatic approach by observing where it happens. They show sincere interest and can be found among the people on the floor. In this way, they know how to break through any resistance and convince people.
They have the ability to connect at all levels and thus motivate people and get them moving. The same message is effortlessly translated from the employee on the floor to management, creating a general understanding.
WHAT DOES GAZELLE DO?
Royal Gazelle in the Veluwse Dieren employs approximately 450 people. At Gazelle they make 250,000 bicycles per year. This makes Gazelle the market leader in the Netherlands and is working hard to expand the organization beyond its own national borders. Since its foundation in 1892, quality has been paramount. In 1996 the Gazelle quality system was certified according to the ISO-9001 standards.
